Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz dies from coronavirus

Lorenzo Sanz, the 76-year-old former president of Real Madrid, died Saturday from the coronavirus.
Earlier this week, multiple outlets reported that Sanz had tested positive for COVID-19.
“Today, all of madridismo is in mourning following the passing of the president who dedicated a huge part of his life to his great passion: Real Madrid,” the soccer club wrote in a statement on its website. “Given the current circumstances, Real Madrid will give him the recognition he deserves as soon as possible.”
Sanz was president of Real Madrid from 1995 to 2000. During that time, the illustrious club won two European Cups, ending a 32-year title drought in 1998, and a league title in 1997.

After being voted out of the presidency at Madrid, Sanz remained active in world soccer, buying the Spanish club Malaga in 2006 and later selling it in 2010.
Sanz’s sons, Lorenzo Jr. and Fernando, shared the news on Twitter.
