Cuba reports record number of new Covid-19 cases

Cuba reported 229 new Covid-19 cases in all provinces, the highest number of patients in one day since the outbreak of the pandemic in March.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Cuba has reported a total of 11,434 Covid-19 cases.

Over the last few days, the country has reported the highest numbers of new Covid-19 cases, above 100 patients a day, and reached 217 cases on December 24.

Monday’s report notes that 1,486 active patients are in hospitals, including 1,467 who are evolving well, ten who are in a serious condition and nine critical cases.

A 75-year-old citizen from Havana who suffered from high blood pressure and ischemic cardiopathy died on Sunday from complications associated to Covid-19, so the total death toll increased to 143 since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Over the last 24 hours, 92 patients were discharged from hospitals so 9,797 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

The report added that 13,625 PCR tests in real time were made on Sunday throughout the country, thus increasing the total number of such tests to 1,434,139.
