(Trinidad Guardian) Although Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said his daughter got no favours in her repatriation from the United States, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the US Dr Neil Parsan is saying otherwise.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Parsan said he was disgusted by the blatant lies being told by Rowley and Minister of National Security Stuart Young.
“They have said that no one has been granted favours and no one can jump the line for the granting of exemptions. The PM’s daughter applied for an exemption on November 4, 2020, and was allowed in on the last flight from NYC in time for Christmas. I have applied since June 29, 2020, and contacted the Ministry several times with one automatically generated response saying nothing,” Parsan wrote.
He said he sent a text to Young but there was no action from him.
He questioned whether it was because he served as an ambassador during the People’s Partnership government.
“LIES, NEPOTISM, FAVORITISM, DISCRIMINATION, ABUSE OF PUBLIC OFFICE is what this Prime Minister represents,” he wrote.
Since news of Rowley’s youngest daughter, Dr Sonel Rowley-Stewart’s return, there has been criticism circulating on social media by some citizens.
Most of them suggested that the Ministry granted her favour because she was the Prime Minister’s daughter while others were languishing in foreign countries, begging for exemptions to return home.
Addressing the issue at the Diplomatic Centre last Wednesday, Rowley said he was disgusted and insulted by the behaviour of the critics.
He said that for months, he monitored the rising COVID-19 figures in New York where his daughter lived.
He said she was not put ahead of the line, but returned home at “the end of the iguana tail”.
Young chimed in, saying that at no point in time did he and Rowley have any conversation about Rowley-Stewart’s repatriation.
Guardian Media contacted Young yesterday but he did not respond.
